Overview
We are Australasia’s leading network of individual social entrepreneurs and social enterprise organisations with a passion for innovation, and for social change and transformation. We engage and support the formation of networks among a diverse range of individuals, systems, knowledge areas (education, youth, employment, community, housing, health, governance..) and enterprising people in the Third (nonprofit) and Fourth (“for-benefits”) Sectors. Our particular interests are in working with and supporting small-to-medium and micro social enterprises/enterprises.
We aim to power social change through entrepreneurship, and through the participation and reciprocal contribution of our member network of social entrepreneurs. We work ‘with’ and ‘for’ social entrepreneurs and community social enterprises and not ‘on’ them.
We are not a volunteer or primarily a fee-for-service based member organisation or association, but a network of social entrepreneurs with shared values. AISE is non-partisan and is not attached to any political organisation.
Our main networking activities focus on:
- Learning and skills-development that is “mission” and “market” oriented with a particular interest in all levels of education and learning, and curriculum materials development.
- Enquiry & research including practitioner-based and applied research, consultancies and evaluations.
- Technology applications for communities including community informatics and information society technologies.
We have a special interest in working with social entrepreneurs and communities engaged in:
- Small to medium enterprises (SMEs) and micro (social) enterprises
- Research and links with schooling and universities
- Critical issues in the construction and design of social enterprises from the ground up
- Enterprise and e-learning for social and business skills-development
- Industry, business and private sector entrepreneur links
We are especially interested in identifying and solving the critical features that are needed for the design and implementation of social enterprises for the achievemnet of effective social impact, observable social change, and improved performance. Through our network we aim to help social enterpreneurs to 'do it better'.
