We are a small and recently established Australasian network of social entrepreneurs with a keen interest in small-to-medium and micro social enterprises/enterprises. We are passionate about finding practical solutions to problems. And we are 'driven' by a commitment to make a difference , to produce social impact, and to power social change through support for social entrepreneurs and community enterprises. We are a network rather than an organisation. Like contemporary social enterprises, we operate as an alternative business model emphasising mutualism with a focus on social, financial and environmental outcomes.
We work in local and international contexts through engaging in the three strategic areas of research-enquiry, learning-skills development, and information society technologies for communities.
Our four major goals are to:
- Form networks and partner relationships locally and internationally and act as guardian of the value created through these networks.
- Identify critical issues that lead to the effective development of
micro and small-to-medium social enterprises from the ground-up. - Engage in learning and research and grow an ‘entrepreneurial spirit’ through collaboration with social entrepreneurs, their communities, schools and universities.
- Turn local needs into sustainable markets for social impact and earned income.
Our membership is based on mutuality principles where our members band together with the common purpose of networking our ideas and services from which we shall all benefit. As such there is no entry or membership fee to join AISE but membership is a prerequisite for shared benefits. Some members may choose not to contribute and in this case a membership fee is incurred.
